Lisa Mueller

I’m Lisa Mueller, an intellectual property attorney with over thirty years of experience helping innovators in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, diagnostics, food products, plant, and related fields. I believe ideas can change the world, but only if they’re protected properly. My work spans everything from patent prosecution, global portfolio strategy, and freedom-to-operate analysis, to helping clients understand regulatory hurdles and maximize the value of their inventions.

I’m passionate about bridging the technical, legal, and commercial worlds. Whether you’re a university, a biotech startup, established pharmaceutical company, or researcher with something new to bring forward, I’ll partner with you to navigate complexity.

Writing is one of the ways I share what I’ve learned and experienced. I edited the book "Global Patent Protection and Enforcement of In Vitro Diagnostic Inventions", a comprehensive guide to protecting diagnostic IP worldwide.

My latest book, Katie’s Rainbow, is a children’s story celebrating love, inclusion, and the beauty of differences — with proceeds supporting the National Down Syndrome Society.

Lisa is the founder of the Casimir Jones Life Sciences Patent Academy, a pioneering, free educational initiative designed to open doors for diverse life science professionals interested in careers in patent law. This 15-week virtual program delivers targeted, hands-on legal training through expert-led online classes, practical assignments, and direct mentorship.

The Patent Academy introduces graduate students, postdocs, and science professionals to the fundamentals of patent law and application drafting, tailoring content to those seeking meaningful career alternatives outside of laboratory research.
